1 year completed with Dramatic Soul

Dramatic Soul completes one whole year since I bought it on my own! Woohoo! May 27 is officially Dramatic Soul’s birthday!

Thinking about how the year was in terms of the blog… well… I’m not so proud of myself! I haven’t been giving as much attention as required to the blog and I hate myself for that. There are hardly 15 book reviews so far and sooo many topics that I left halfway after I started writing a post! Since I have renewed the post for the next year, and it is its birthday I make a promise to bve a better blogger henceforth.

I really like what I am doing here. I like the fact that I have something to say and people who like to read my thoughts. I got to know some really great people thanks to this idea of maintaining a blog and I am really thankful for that!

Talking about Dramatic Soul, I bought this domain an year after a domain called dramaticsoul.com which I received as a gift from a fellow blogger expired and I had grown attached to the name. I was blogging on the subdomain of wordpress.com and decided to finally invest in a blog. I was my dad who financed the purchase last year, but this year I can proudly say that the renewal was completely my own!

I still rant a lot over here but I try to include more posts about books, about what is really happening around me, etc. I have recently been getting a lot of book review requests, and accepting them, communicating with publishers, etc. is helping me a lot to become professional with the whole idea.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to change a lot more things in the upcoming year and make this an even better place for all my visitors.

What is happening with you all these days, readers?

Changing Hosts!

As you must have read on twitter if you follow Kya that she has decided to stop free hosting domains. Since her reasons to shut down the service were valid, I didn’t feel bad for her decision. But then I had time till 28th of January to get new a hosting service for Dramatic Soul.

Since it was my dad who has to pay for my blog things I wanted a reasonably cheap or free solution for this year (I’ll be working from January 20167). I checked out many options and I was almost set on making 000webhost.com my host when Holly warned me about the risks of getting hosted by that site. Thanks a lot, Holly!

Then after a long discussion with my parents I decided to buy a hosting plan with Namecheap where I also registered Dramatic Soul. It was offering the cheapest plan and quite sufficient for my blog.

All the purchase went smoothly but I faced a real scare when I changed the name servers and found that the posts that I had imported in the new WordPress accounts were only from my own wordpress.com blog, thedramaticsoul.wordpress.com. All the posts I had written after purchasing my domain (may 2015 to January 2016) were missing!

After a whole day of struggle with as many options as Google was dishing out, I managed to export all posts from the out WordPress account, month by month and import them in the new account. It was a horribly panicky situation that took the whole of my Saturday but I am glad I could retrieve everything!

There are a lot of changes I have to do with the site now, so stay tuned to guide me with the changes! 😀

Hello world!

Yes, Yes… Finally it’s my very own domain. The first one that I have bought!

This is the mandatory “Hello World!” post.

I have moved here from my old sub domain of two years : dramaticsoul.wordpress.com. I am not starting for scratch here as such, I have imported all my old posts here which is because I loved my old site. Also, it is the main reason why I have chosen not to change the name of the site.

I was thinking of starting out all fresh, with a new name. but I took a few people’s opinion on it (Especially Anirudh, Riyal, Holly and Georgie) and I realized Dramatic Soul has become a part of me and I didn’t want to part with it. That is the reason the website continues to be by the name of Dramatic soul.

I was thinking of the name Folded Corners initially, which signified the dog-eared books (I try to avoid doing that to my books though). I was thinking of this name because I tend to rant a lot of books in my blogs. But then I didn’t want to limit my blogging topics to just books.

In any case, I love this domain and i am very much thankful to Kya @ giraffe.host for hosting me and NameCheap is an awesome website for registering a new website.

My old site now has only a static page informing about this new site.

I am currently working on a theme for this new site and I hope I can finish it as soon as possible.

All those who have linked dramaticsoul.wordpress.com on your link exchanges pages are requested to change their links to dramaticsoul.info

I’ll blog more soon!

Seven Questions!

I’m answering the 7 questions posted by Holly in her post, “7 question for bloggers“. I liked the questions. It helps me remember when I why I started blogging!

1. When did you start blogging?

I started blogging at the age of 14-15 (almost 7 years back). I had just learnt what HTML and CSS was in school and I was trying to implement it somewhere.

2. Why did you start blogging?

I wanted to get exposed in this virtual world, and blogging helped in doing so. Also, I started writing, which is something I always wanted to do! It helped me express my thoughts to the world.

3. What do you blog about?

I mostly blog about myself, my daily life, but that is somewhat boring for the readers. People don’t really want to read about you cribbing about your life. So, I try to review books that I read, because I love to read and I really read a lot!

4. What is your favourite thing about blogging?

Making friends! I got to know many people, who live in parts of world far away from me… but still we get to know about each other’s lives, countries, etc! I don’t have that many readers, as I am a lazy blogger but still people do read my blogs and respond with their views and that’s what I love the most!

5. What is your least favourite thing about blogging?

Constantly updating the blog! As I said, since I am lazy I tend to forget to write at times and then I keep procrastinating. Also, I am scared of making WordPress themes!

6. Where do you see your blog in 12 months time?

I hope I write more blogs by next June… and I have many more regular readers than I have now… Also, I want my blog to be a domain and not a sub-domain as it is now!

7. What is your blogging dream?

I want to have a good book reviewing blog with the reviews of all the books that I have read! (which are 400+)
