Changing Hosts!

As you must have read on twitter if you follow Kya that she has decided to stop free hosting domains. Since her reasons to shut down the service were valid, I didn’t feel bad for her decision. But then I had time till 28th of January to get new a hosting service for Dramatic Soul.

Since it was my dad who has to pay for my blog things I wanted a reasonably cheap or free solution for this year (I’ll be working from January 20167). I checked out many options and I was almost set on making my host when Holly warned me about the risks of getting hosted by that site. Thanks a lot, Holly!

Then after a long discussion with my parents I decided to buy a hosting plan with Namecheap where I also registered Dramatic Soul. It was offering the cheapest plan and quite sufficient for my blog.

All the purchase went smoothly but I faced a real scare when I changed the name servers and found that the posts that I had imported in the new WordPress accounts were only from my own blog, All the posts I had written after purchasing my domain (may 2015 to January 2016) were missing!

After a whole day of struggle with as many options as Google was dishing out, I managed to export all posts from the out WordPress account, month by month and import them in the new account. It was a horribly panicky situation that took the whole of my Saturday but I am glad I could retrieve everything!

There are a lot of changes I have to do with the site now, so stay tuned to guide me with the changes! πŸ˜€

  1. Yike! Glad you were able to still export your previous entries! That sounded rather stressful, but yay for figuring it out!

Good luck with the new host πŸ˜€

  2. Yikes that sounded like a nightmare but I’m glad that you were able to find a solution to your problem and still keep your blog up. I know I had to navigate the waters after going out on my own. It isn’t hard, but, it is different.

Have fun with your new host πŸ™‚

  3. Oh no, that sounds like a nightmare but well done for figuring it out. I hope your new host works out well for you

  4. Nice one, Bhairavee! πŸ™‚ Props on making the move to β€˜fly solo’. It’s not hard to move posts with WordPress, ever since they had their Export/Import function, it has been a real blessing to move posts between blogs or from server to server. I am glad you got it figured out! πŸ™‚

  5. One of my hosting plans is with Namecheap too! So far things have been good with them, and their prices are definitely reasonable. I’m glad you managed to export all of your posts over too. That’d be sad to lose some of them. I hope everything goes well on your new host!

  6. I always hate switching hosts. x_x I don’t like moving stuff. Or change. XD

I always hate when stuff like that happens with transferring things. But glad you got it all sorted!
