It’s Thanksgiving. Not something we celebrate in India, but I thought i’ll give it a go this year!
Thank You Mishma of Chasing Faerytales for this linkup idea of Thanks-U-Give!
My college officially came to an end when I submitted my last paper year. So the aspect of life at school or college coming to an end gave me a lot of things to be thankful for!
Friends: These are people over the many many years who still come to my aid when I need. Even now when I am changing cities and need assistance to find accommodation, people who haven’t been in touch much, stepped up to help me. I think the friends I made so far might be the last stage where I can make true blue friends with selfless friendship goals. Some people stick to you no matter what, some people you can count on forever and I am thankful to have all these type of people to be called as friends!
Sister: Though she will cringe for me saying this but I am very very much thank for her mere existence. I think I’m privileged to have a sibling and I completely love her, how much ever we fight on an hourly basis 😛
Parents: They have been always there for me, never interfering with my decisions or forcing theirs on me. Always there to support and be happy for me no matter what! Also, for reading out story books to me when I couldn’t read which really helped me become the reader I am today!
Coming to the Book world, I’m thankful for books making my life easier, by controlling my mood swings and temper, some of the noteworthy one’s I’ve mentioned below:
Fairytales : I’ll categorize all Grimm stories and 1001 Arabian Nights and sorts under one heading of fairy tales which my mom used to read out to me till the age of 6 from a set of beautiful graphics books. that may have been the only time I read graphics books! They were the best to get me to like books.
Secret Seven Series : These books I started reading when I was about 9 years old from my school library. I used to finished them up ASAP to get the next one. I think I even had a few fights with people over these books to read them first!
Tinkle Comics : This is the only comics I read sincerely till almost recently. I had all these wonderful characters like Suppandi, Tantri the Mantri, Shikari Shambu and many non character short stories for kids which were just fun to read. I think my Indian readers will be acquainted with it. I used to buy them on railway stations and they made my Pune to Mumbai journeys fun, back in the day.
Harry Potter Series : As I have mentioned countless number of times, Harry Potter was the first novel I was gifted as my own. It got me introduced to the world of fantasy books and i’m a proud Potterhead till date!
Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons: Though the Da Vinci Code is my favourite Dan Brown book, Angels and Demons helped me get through the entire year of my 10th standard. My parents had taken away all my collection to help me concentrate on my studies but I need something to read! so this was the only book I had left at home and I read it over and over again for an year!
Sophie Kinsella’s books and those by Meg Cabot: I’m thankful for these books to get me interested in the contemporary type of books. And YA too!
All the fantasy authors for creating wonderful magical, imaginary types of world for me to escape the reality at least for some time!
